Bringing a Special Gift Home

Moving Long Distance? First-Night Kit You Need

If you're moving a long distance away from your current home, chances are you're going to be looking at moving companies to help you get your belongings from point A to point B. If using a moving company, the truck may not get there the same time you do. This means a day or so without your belongings. To help you feel a little more at home, there are some things you should bring with you to your new home to make things go a little smoother. Read below for a first night (or more) kit you need to get you by until the moving truck gets there.

Change Of Clothes For Everyone

Pack a bag for everyone in your home that has a few day's worth of clothing inside. Just in case the moving truck takes a day or two longer than expected, you'll have some clothing to wear to get you by until the truck arrives. Try to fit everything into one suitcase to save space in your vehicle for other belongings you plan on bringing with you.

Medication And Toiletries

Any medication you take daily should be brought with you, as well as toiletries you use daily. You'll need to pack enough to get you by for a few days. Pack a small toiletry bag with travel sized items to save space.

Garbage Bags And Cleaning Supplies

When you get to your new home, you're probably going to need to do a little cleaning ahead of time. Be sure to bring cleaning supplies and garbage bags so you can do a quick clean of the house. Also bring a vacuum with you so you can vacuum the house as soon as you get there.

Sleeping Bags And Pillows

Sleeping bags and pillows are going to be necessary until your bedroom furniture arrives. Bring your child's favorite stuffed animal or blanket with (or any other sleeping necessity) to help your child sleep better in the new house.

Pet Food And Other Pet Necessities

If you have a pet that is going to be travelling with you, you'll need to remember to bring pet food with you. Pack a couple of small collapsible bowls with you to feed your pet along with way, as well as to give your pet water while out on the road. Collapsible bowls will help save space inside your vehicle. Don't forget a leash, collar, and any medication your pet needs.

When moving long distance, you're most likely going to get to the new home before your movers. Be sure you are prepared to stay in the new home without your furniture and belongings by making a first night kit so you can get by until the rest of your things arrive.
